The Cincinnati Bengals won the AFC North

"I just wish (New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees) would have played the last game," the former Cincinnati Bengals quarterback jokingly said.

Brees sat out the game because the Saints had already clinched home-field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs.

By sitting out the season finale, Brees set an NFL record for the highest completion percentage in a season at 70.62 percent, breaking Anderson's mark of 70.3 percent set in the 1982 season.

"Drew had a tremendous season, and he is an extremely accurate quarterback. Every accolade he got last year he deserved it because he was wonderful on the field," Anderson said.

Anderson spent some time with old friend and fellow former NFL quarterback Archie Manning, serving as a camp counselor at the Manning Passing Academy, which was held July 9-11 at Nicholls State University.

"We shared stories about different games, different golf tournaments and different characters that we've run into," said Anderson, who recently retired as the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback coach. "It's been fun sharing some stories with Archie."

The Cincinnati Bengals won the AFC North for the second time Andre Smith since 2002 by finishing with a perfect record within the division.  Carson Palmer was back from injury and played well, and Chad Ochocinco was great, but the biggest player was Cedric Benson. Benson joined the Bengals late in 2008 and showed enough to earn a contract for 2009. And he earned his money, leading the Bengals in rushing for 1251 yards in 13 games.  Unfortunately playing in Cincinnati seems to have an effect on players because Benson has already been arrested once this offseason. Given the Bengals history of criminality, it's not a good sign. Benson looks like he'll escape punishment from the league, but if the courts carry through with punishment, Roger Goodell will likely follow suit.  The NFL odds  makers have don't like the Bengals chances to repeat as they are 3/1 to win the AFC North behind the Baltimore Ravens and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The new Cincinnati Bengals jerseys have waIved injured offensive guard Jason Shirley with a non-football injury designation, the team announced.

The second-year pro from Fresno State tore his Achilles tendon in April during a basketball game.

If Shirley isn't claimed off waivers, and he probably won't be since he's out for the entire year, he'll be shifted to the Bengals' reserve-non-football injury list.

Shirley is a promising young guard whose career was on the upswing until this major injury.
